CHAPTER TWELVE

“Man!” Olivia shouted. “I feel like I just drank a six pack of energy drinks.”

Sonny Caprini, sitting in the passenger seat of the Mercedes, was furious. “I can’t believe what your people just did.”

“Ha!” Olivia said as she laid on the horn to get the cab in front of her to pick up the pace. “It was perfect!”

“I’ll never be able to show my face in the neighborhood again.”

“If anything happens to my mom, it won’t matter since everybody you know will be dead,” Olivia said with a laugh.

“That’s not funny,” Caprini answered angrily as his eyes grew large. “That light is changing!”

Olivia laughed again as she floored the gas and blew through the intersection before the cars going the other direction even had the green. “You didn’t buy all that did you?”

“Buy what?”

“Oh. My. God!” Olivia said as she laid on the horn again then flipped off the driver of a car that was taking its sweet time making a right turn. “First off, Knucklehead, there was no risk of anyone getting hurt.”

“How do you figure that?”

“Remember when I said it was dark in here but exactly what I expected?”

“Yeah.”

“That told my brother that the floor plan he had was accurate. Unless your Uncle Benny had Shaquille O'Neal as a bartender and he was standing on a chair, no one was going to get hit by a few rounds fired into the back wall at the seven feet level.”

“What about the pool table?” Caprini demanded.

“What did your Uncle say about it?”

Sonny thought about it for a moment then said, “No one uses it very much.”

“With that said, what are the odds any of the wise guys in there were going to rack ‘em and start playing with me and you in the room?”

“Okay,” Caprini said as he finally started to calm down. “I’ll give you that one.”

“Plus,” Olivia said as she cut off a car to a symphony of horns, “you have to admit my eight ball corner pocket was off the hook.”

“How did he do that?” Caprini asked.

“That disk Seth gave me back at the apartment will auto aim a .50 caliber round. From the range he was firing it wouldn’t have had a variance of more than one sixteenth of an inch.”

“What’s your father going to do?”

“Do? He already did it.”

“Did what?” Caprini asked.

“He put the fear of God in everyone even remotely associated with your Uncle Benny.”

“How do you figure that?”

“Remember how when your Uncle’s men were restrained? Instead of being herded into a backroom they were held close enough to hear every word my father and I had to say.” Olivia laughed. “Also, do you think I really had to go over my father’s resume for your Uncle’s benefit?”

“Son-of-bitch,” Caprini muttered. “Everybody in the neighborhood will have heard about what happened by now.” Caprini’s chin dropped to his chest and he began to chuckle. “The other Bosses will all be looking over their shoulders.”

“That’s why all of their names were included on the list,” Olivia said.
